Portal ’80s Commercial

By Bob On September 5, 2010 Under Internet Mktg

CHECK OUT the other RETRO COMMERCIAL we discovered HERE! gamervision.com Recently I was sorting through some of my old VHSs, looking for recordings of the first few minutes of Spice Channel movies, (you know, before the feed would get all scrambled) when I stumbled upon a caché of ’80s cartoons I must have taped one Saturday morning as a kid. Immediately, I put my pants back on and began to revisit my childhood (except for the pants part). Lo and behold, there were all my old friends: Garfield and Friends, Spiderman and his Amazing Friends, Gobots… Though, truth be told, I wasn’t nearly as interested in the cartoons as I was in the commercials that bookended them. Yeah, we’ve all been to RetroJunk.com, but some of these ads really tore open the floodgates of my memory. Like most of you, I’m a hardcore gamer, but I prefer my games aged twenty years or more. So when I saw two of the all-time rarest commercials for two of my all-time favorite games, I quickly took my pants back off, captured the footage to INTERNET, and posted ‘em here. Many of you probably don’t remember text adventure games, let alone the fact that Valve remade one of Sierra’s more obscure interactive fiction titles, Portal, some two decades later as the first-person puzzler everyone knows and loves. And how many of our readers were owners of the Magnavox Odyssey², let alone Electronic Arts’ genre pioneering Left 4 Dead? Valve would also remake this game a quarter of a century later, but not before

      lol, the funny thing is that there actually WAS a portal interactive novel in ’86, and it WAS for the Macintosh!

      but that was a novel about an astronaut that came back to a ruined earth by Brad Fregger

      @bombadecasa
      Invented? Backwards hats are just hats backwards, and the fad started somewhere in the early 90′s.
