Long Island Search Engine Optimization | Common Website SEO Blunders – New York SEO

By rlhutton On February 6, 2011 Under Monetization Strategies

Are you a Search Engine Optimization (SEO) newbie? SEO is quite complicated whenever you initial start and the main cause is, there’s so much information on the Web about it… and how do you know what SEO steps to invest your time on. Since SEO takes so long to propagate on the search engines, you can invest 90+ days operating on your website and then understand that what you’re doing isn’t operating. That is the worst feeling and will most likely make most individuals quit.

Here are some common mistakes:

Incorrect or irrelevant keywords

Some do not goal the correct keywords. I work with businesses that send me keywords that sound great, but within the end those exact keywords might not get much search traffic. If no 1 is searching for a keyword, what will be the point of attempting to goal it? Also, some businesses start with keywords which are too competitive. Do you want to compete against Amazon, Walmart or Goal? I know I wouldn’t in most cases. There are methods to tweak the keywords, maybe long-tail keywords (3 or more words), local keywords (rather than “criminal attorney”, how about “New York criminal attorney”)! Discovering the right keywords will help in obtaining better outcomes with your SEO.

Overusing Key Phrases

In 1998 the game was to take your keywords and make them the same color as your background and then write them over and over on your home page. That method is long gone, but some individuals still feel that typing keywords over and over on their site will help. The key today would be to having a balance of all of the keywords that you want to be known for surrounded by relevant and unique content material for your market. Once you start creating content material for your website (weblog is recommended for this), then you can optimize that content material for your keywords.

NOT Making Distinctive Content Material

If you do not create unique content material frequently you’ll most likely not have much success in your SEO. Using blogging software like WordPress will help out tremedously, but of course the difficult part is keeping your website updated. After your weblog is setup, then what? Produce content material that is relevant to what you’re attempting to sell. Plus, make sure your keywords are optimized inside the content material. For example, do not write a weblog post about flowers if you’re attempting to sell cars. Plus, make sure your keywords are placed within the tile from the weblog post, plus within the body from the weblog post (multiple times)! This may help search engines understand what keywords you want to be known for.

Flash

Flash is great, but all flash web sites do not help out at all. Search engines will not be able to understand your website from an SEO standpoint if your site is completely flash. Some flash files are ok, but just stay away from 100% flash websites.

Too Many Graphics

Graphics are great, but words are better for SEO purposes. If you do have images on your website, make sure the title and other attributes for the images are all filled in. WordPress makes this easy whenever you upload or add an image to a weblog post. Having optimized images in your website will help in obtaining your images in Google Images. You are able to get a decent quantity of traffic from there. The only issue with Google Images is they do not update their database for about 4-6 months, so you might be waiting for a whilst. But that is also a cause to get things going today.

NOT Paying Attention To On-Site SEO

SEO starts with your website. Many are so worried about building backlinks and creating social media accounts, which they forget about their personal website. When someone comes to me, the initial thing I see if I can make their entire website a weblog. If that is feasible it makes life much simpler to have an optimized website. You are able to create a static home page and just create the actual weblog in its personal directory. This may save a lot of time when it comes to SEO.
